David was a chef for many years. The
army paid for much of his training after his tours of duty in Vietnam.
David ended his career as a banquet chef with the Hyatt Regency Hotels. Along
the way he did a lot of catering work for major publishers and their employees.
David also did private parties for them at their homes.
When David had enough of the 18 hour a day, 7 days a week work schedule, he
decided to pursue what was at that time just a hobby. That hobby is books.
David's hobby has now grown to the point that he now has regular customers in
every state and 5 different countries. David will tell you it's more of a
service than a business because it has never been about money. It is about
helping others. "I don't keep the connections just for myself because
I'd rather share my good fortune with all that I can", says David.
Most
of what little profit there is goes to the Military
Order Of The Purple Heart. "I have calculated just how much
I need to live on, and it is calculated in such a way that when I die, I will be
back to zero, just as I was when I came in. The Army will pay for my
funeral, and then I'm done. Till then, I'll continue to lose a certain amount of
money each month, year in and year out, until the bank account is empty.
By then, they'll be pulling the plug on life support, and I'll be content in the
knowledge that I'll have done all that I could to achieve my goal of helping all
that I can."

Some folks have wondered about the paw
prints featured throughout the site. "Bear Paw" was David's
code name in Vietnam. |
New Books Cheap could not be what it is without
the help of others. New Books Cheap is a service - trying to get new books cheaply,
to as many people who want them," says David. Mary provides help with correspondence as well as updating the web
page. Garry Howard provides space on his server to host the web
page. He was also a big help in the original design of the web page.
Scott Prins has also provided expertise and much needed help in getting the web page
so organized. Their help is very much appreciated!
